Beach breezes and breathtaking sunsets

Steps from one of the most acclaimed beaches in Costa Rica, known for its width, fine sand, unspoiled beauty and family friendliness Casa Lalu is located in the magical Hermosa Valley just north of Santa Theresa. During your stay, you will undoubtedly be woken by the early am sounds of roving howler monkeys, be startled by a local iguana and maybe catch a glimpse of a local coatimundi. The river that serves as the property’s southern border connects the hills to the east with the beach to the west. Because the river is protected, the trees and canopy are ancient and serve as a corridor or highway for the local fauna. Green season is 1500$/ night, for the other time periods call or email for rates.

Amazing Beaches

Playa Hermosa is our favorite beach, a 3 minute walk away. The pitch of the beach is gradual, eroding much of the energy of the waves prior to reaching the beach. The conditions make Hermosa a great place for young children and learning to surf. This explains why many of the local surf schools use Playa Hermosa as their classroom. The best tides for surfing are mid to high.

The design of Casa Lalu merges traditional Japanese architectural elements with modern design, executed with an eye to the realities of tropical living. All of the interior wood is teak, harvested and crafted by local artisans. Our stairs typify our home as the design is based on traditional Japanese Tansu cabinets with an eye to modernism, built from solid teak.
